Key to the company's success, Bettabuilt's Leading Hands are key members of the carpentry team. As qualified carpenters, their role is to work as part of a carpentry team competently building to standards and specifications within budget, whilst training and supervising the apprentices, hammer hands and carpenters.


  • Plan, carry out, train others in, and supervise the team in all aspects of construction, specifically:
    • Preliminary work - Preparatory demolition and set out for carpentry work.
    • Support structures - Framed foundations, retaining walls, solid foundations.
    • Exterior envelope - Roof claddings, joinery, wall claddings and flashings
    • Frame and structures - Roof construction, ceiling battens, wall & columns, and post, beam and portal construction
    • Interior linings and finishing- Insulation and linings, finishing trim, joinery and hardware, passive fire and sound control systems.
  • Assist the Foreman with selecting and mobilizing individuals to work effectively and efficiently as part of a gangs/crews/teams.
  • Provide timely feedback, and carry out formal feedback sessions, performance improvement programs, and resolve interpersonal conflicts.
  • Review general construction site induction training; and providing site specific induction training.
  • Fulfil the supervisory role of Leading Hand on assigned project sites the coordination of subcontractors, suppliers, and the delivery of materials.
  • Inform the Project Manager daily of the progress of the project.


  • New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry Level 4
  • Ability to lead, motivate and work with a team of carpenters.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Preference given to those with New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trades Supervisor Level 4
